Darko Radosavljev - „Salas - a working tale“
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For dancer and choreographer Darko Radosavljev, growing up in his family was characterised by stories of situations and persons that could not be grasped physically, due to loss or living out of reach. Although the stories and myths of his family were very present, he himself could neither become a part of these stories nor have his own physical experiences within them. With his work Salas - a working tale, he dedicates himself to intense artistic research into the myths of work and physicality with which he grew up, choreographically developing them to grow into a solo performance evening. In Serbian, »Salas« denotes a field hut in which labourers dwell. Darko Radosavljev´s paternal family inhabited one of those huts until they managed to accumulate enough material security to be able to move to the village. Therefore, on the one hand, Salas designates a specific biographical place of his family. On the other hand, never having lived there himself, Salas also stands for a projection and a space of desire. The solo performance invites its audience to develop thoughts and fantasies about physical work and family community and to re-imagine their way into these spaces again and again. Last not least, this also creates a (his) specific and queer perspective on physical work and family participation. Between performer and spectator, this imagined and imaginary Salas becomes a shared opportunity to rethink narratives and actions and to (re)write family history. Darko Radosavljev, born in Serbia, works and lives as a choreographer and dancer in Essen and Berlin. He studied dance and choreography at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, as well as art and politics at Goldsmiths University of London and the London School of Economics. Between 2010-15, he was the first dance stipendiary of the German National Academic Scholarship Foundation, and in 2018, he received entry-level funding from the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe for his solo work Seascape. His creations have been shown at the Liverpool Biennial, Performing Arts Festival Berlin, Act! Bilbao, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Uferstudios Berlin, PACT Zollverein, and tanzhaus nrw. Radosavljev has collaborated with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Boris Charmatz, Reinhild Hoffmann, Xavier Le Roy, Nevin Aladag, Michiel Vandevelde, and others. Duration: ca. 60 min. In German, English and Serbian with German and English surtitles. The play is understandable without knowledge of the language.

Boys´ Club
--------------------------------------------------------------- Boys´ Club reflects on the experiences of female-read tap artists throughout history, up to the present day. The play deals with power dynamics that show the many facets in which female-read people are perceived in today´s world. With their piece, the women-led Canadian tap dance company tells their individual stories and relates them to female artists who came before them. In the process, strong similarities between current and historical occurrences become clear - experiences that artists in male-centred societies have over time are similar. Veronica Simpson, Elise McGrenera and Laura Donaldson were resident artists at the 2022 edition of the TAP AHEAD Festival and founded their company Boys´ Club shortly afterwards. Their first joint piece of the same name premiered in Barcelona in 2023 and now the three dancers are returning to Düsseldorf. In Boys´ Club, all female does not only refer to dance and choreography: the soundtrack of the piece consists exclusively of tracks by female musicians and composers.

Talk --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For seven days, Estefanía Porqueras, this year´s Artist in Residence, explores a possible tap dance-based movement language that can be read as a response to physical and emotional oppression of the individual in her first research on A-Cos.o. By using micro-cameras attached to the dancing body, whose images are to be projected live, she plans to expand the viewer´s perspective. Estefanía Porqueras is a tap dancer, choreographer, teacher and curator from Barcelona. With her work, she continuously promotes the artistic development of tap dance and advocates the networking of tap with other and new dance forms. She is the artistic director of the dance company UNUM Project. Porqueras dances as the protagonist of CAMUT BAND, one of the most renowned international tap dance groups, and is the curator of the tap dance program at the alternative theater Golem´S in Barcelona. Since 2012 she has been teaching regularly at the Escola Luthier, one of the leading centers for tap dance in Barcelona. There are currently barely any opportunities for tap dance artists to sketch out initial ideas and design possible structures for further work. With the Tap-Lab, we would like to contribute to the support and, therefore, to a strengthening and safeguarding of the future of current Tap Dance culture. Afterwards there will be a talk on the small stage. Duration: ca. 60 min. incl. talk

MOUVOIR - École des Sables, Stephanie Thiersch & Alesandra Seutin - „UNTIL THE BEGINNINGS“
To begin again Isn't to go backwards But to decide to go on. Dauer: 75 Min. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To begin again Isn't to go backwards But to decide to go on. (Amanda Gorman) Beneath the canvas of global rhythms, Until the Beginnings orchestrates a vibrant dance-poem that brings together an international team of eight dancers from Senegal, Germany and France along with musicians from the field of percussion and rap. The directors Alesandra Seutin (Artistic Director École des Sables, Senegal) and Stephanie Thiersch (Artistic Director MOUVOIR, Germany) of diverse realms, weave a choreographic tapestry challenging the essence of hospitality. Current political enfoldings of the criminalisation of hospitality in many parts of the world as well as concepts of Jacques Derrida and Anne Dufourmantelle and utopian common spaces found their way into the project. Together, they embark on a journey of deconstructing the notion of »at-home« and exploring the possibilities of cultivating a shared garden in the tapestry of continuity, cycles, and interconnected threads. Stephanie Thiersch and MOUVOIR most recently guested at tanzhaus nrw presenting performance concert HELLO TO EMPTINESS in 2022. Authentic as well as experimental, MOUVOIR´s multi-layered productions negotiate modern life's essential fields. As an uncompromising observer, Stephanie Thiersch dissects her environment with MOUVOIR: pop culture, philosophy, and visual arts are her tools. Thiersch sees her choreographic work within a broader conception of interdisciplinary movement research, which currently primarily incorporates music into choreographic thinking. Until the Beginnings was created in a transcontinental collaboration with École des Sables and Alesandra Seutin. École des Sables is an international centre for traditional and contemporary African dance, a school for theoretical and practical teaching, a research laboratory, and a place for encounters and exchanges, conferences and artistic residencies for dancers and choreographers from Africa, the African diaspora, and different cultures from around the world. Alesandra Seutin has been the artistic director at École des Sables since 2020. The international performer, choreographer, and lecturer was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. She studied dance in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the United States. She also completed her training at École des Sables in Senegal, where she was a student of Germaine Acogny, who passed on her technique. Today, Alesandra Seutin is an ambassador of this technique, which she teaches at École des Sables as well as around the globe. Duration: 75 min. In English, Wolof, Malagasy und French.

Mamela Nyamza - „HATCHED ENSEMBLE“
»HATCHED ENSEMBLE powerfully conveys challenging issues of tradition. An insightful, thought-provoking, and deeply moving production« (Daily Dispatch, Sivenathi Gosa) »Embracing Complexity and Identity in HATCHED ENSEMBLE: The mastery of the performance is its contrast« (CUE, VILIA DUBE) Dauer: ca. 70 Min. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HATCHED ENSEMBLE is a poetic and emotionally intense piece: it works with diverse musical movement material from classical Western dance history as well as African dance styles and vocal scores. HATCHED ENSEMBLE is, as the title suggests, a large group piece. The ten-strong dance ensemble with a background of classical ballet training, an opera singer and a live musician pursue the deeply personal and challenging topic of body politics. Nyamza and her performers demystify and deconstruct (gender) norms, exposing sexist and racist ascriptions. Anyone who has ever felt a conflict with or uncertainty about their own identity will feel particularly addressed by HATCHED ENSEMBLE. Choreographer, dancer, and activist Mamela Nyamza is one of the most idiosyncratic voices on South Africa´s dance scene. Her expressive and courageous works are usually carried by urgent social issues. With HATCHED ENSEMBLE, Nyamza adapts HATCHED, her highly acclaimed 2007 solo piece, an autobiographical work in which the choreographer reflects on her resistant biography as a lesbian mother and artist between (dance) cultures and identities, between tradition and transformation. »HATCHED ENSEMBLE powerfully conveys challenging issues of tradition. An insightful, thought-provoking, and deeply moving production« (Daily Dispatch, Sivenathi Gosa) »Embracing Complexity and Identity in HATCHED ENSEMBLE: The mastery of the performance is its contrast« (CUE, VILIA DUBE) Duration: ca. 70 min.

Charlotte Triebus x Mirevi - „Precious Camouflage“
Dauer: 45 Min. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assembly-line AI agents produce realistic-looking media content called deepfakes - images of people that could exist in this way while consisting entirely of artificially generated data sets. But what if movements were also artificially generated? What does it mean if the generated data set wants to simulate humanity as plausibly as possible? During the Precious Camouflage piece, four dancers from the Charlotte Triebus-led New Human Body Society ensemble collaborate with several AI agents. The autonomous systems can perceive, decide, and act independently and influence both the choreography and the live events on stage. At the work's core lies a large installation, consisting of 4 LED elements, between which the dancers act on stage. Precious Camouflage brings visitors into a confrontation with the urgent questions of dealing with AI, its meaning, the opportunities, and its dangers. Under the artistic direction of Charlotte Triebus, Precious Camouflage is being created in close co-operation with the Mirevi Lab of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and vobe.digital. Charlotte Triebus works as a performance artist and choreographer. Together with her ensemble, the New Human Body Society, and the MIREVI team, she conducts research at the intersection of dance, art, and technology, combining artistic practice and theoretical research. In doing so, she specifically asks about the acting body, agency, and queer identity relations. The Mixed Reality & Visualization (Mirevi, www.mirevi.de) working group at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, headed by Christian Geiger, works in the field of VR/AR/MR and human-technology interaction, robotics, digital health, and intelligent systems. One focus of the activities lies in movement-based interfaces and the use of digital technologies in the context of art and culture. In particular, non-technical aspects of the user experience and social and ethical implications are also taken into account. For several years now, Charlotte Triebus´ collaboration with the Mirevi Lab has been distinguished by its stability in quality and sophisticated productions. Artistic queries on dance art and research on technology do not only find expression in the artistic work, but they also flow into technical research and scientific publications at renowned conferences. Jan Martens / GRIP - „VOICE NOISE“
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VOICE NOISE suggests being part of a much longer event wherein dancers and voices come and go, in an infinite deployment of hidden or forgotten musical treasures. Inspired by The Gender of Sound, a 1995 essay by Anne Carson, Martens creates an eclectic mix from a century of female-read voices in music history: singing, humming, soothing, screaming, whispering. In her essay, Carson recounts how female voices were muted, perceived as superfluous or even as disturbing noise. VOICE NOISE is a happening, a communal event for audience and performers. The theatre becomes an undefined open space in which viewing and listening are treated equally.

Choy Ka Fai - „Sometimes I See The Future“
»Tanz existiert überall in unseren sozialen Medien. In englischer Sprache. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lecture Performance with Dancing Avatar and Hyperreal Meta-Humans In Sometimes I see the Future, Choy Ka Fai examines telepresence and digitally circulating dances from a cosplay perspective. Cosplay allows for a certain manifestation of being, a way to create new communities - as well as the simultaneous experience of being different. Beyond playful self-expression and popular entertainment, cosplaying here becomes the starting point for an investigation of post-human worlds. »Dance exists everywhere on our social media. I create an extreme self-portrait inspired by artificial intelligence, render farms, chatbots, cosplays, Twitch streaming, and virtual YouTubers. However, it is not a real self-portrait, it is rather what we all want/can/will be in the age of accelerated digital culture. I am interested in the discourse on how we are approaching Web 3.0, how we will decentralise technology in the future, and how we can be human in the future.« (Choy Ka Fai) In English
